The annual General Assembly meeting of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce took place on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, Golden Room, at 15:00 hours. This was the second call of the General Assembly meeting and according to the by-laws, there was a majority quorum.
The items of the agenda were as follows:
- Approval of the previous General Assembly meeting minutes (June 30, 2014)
- Management Report
- Auditors’ Committee Report
- Approval of the Annual Statement of Accounts for the year 2014 and the Budget for the year 2015
- To exempt the Management and the Auditors’ Committee from any responsibility
- Election of new Auditors Committee
- Approval of new members of the Chamber
The meeting commenced with the welcome address of the Chamber President, Simos Anastasopoulos, to the members and according to the first subject of the agenda, the minutes of the General Assembly of June 30, 2014 were read and unanimously approved.
The President, Simos Anastasopoulos, referred to the Management proceedings for year 2014. In particular, he presented a detailed assessment of actions undertaken by the Chamber Committees in the past year by emphasizing that these activities brought the business community, state mechanism and political forces together to advocate a better business climate with the purpose to develop competitiveness and attract investment to our country. It is important for the Chamber, as an institution, to formulate policy reformation whose target is a sound business environment in a challenging period by setting new foundations for best possible results.
The President also referred that the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce has and will have as its goal the broader development of economic and trade relations between Greece and the USA. He mentioned that a significant contributor to these efforts is the U.S. Embassy, and the constant and valuable bilateral cooperation creates conditions for further development of cooperation between the two countries.
The President also, stated that the main objective remains the complete and effective representation of Chamber members’ interests through our targeted interventionism and our ability to maintain and engage as an important institution in the economic and business world. For this purpose through actions and ability to prepare and submit proposals on economic policy reforms and entrepreneurship, the Chamber strives to upgrade the relationship with the public administration and government. The recognition of Chamber’s work and selfless contribution of our members and our committees has made us credible interlocutors to institutions and the government allowing us to assert our strategic participation in shaping policies for entrepreneurship and growth.
The Chamber has been supportive of all governments and we will do the same in 2015, setting at the disposal of the government our particularly effective mechanism and wide network of contacts, especially with the US. Through the work of our committees, events, various actions and effective interventions, we will continue to support a stable European course of our country and the promotion of reforms to improve the economic environment, competitiveness, creation of jobs, extroversion of businesses and sustainable development.
The President thanked all the members for their continuing support, and he urged them to pay timely their fees in order for the Chamber to continue to foster its dynamic presence and at the same time enrich its line of activities.
The President acknowledged and thanked the sponsors of the Chamber for their continuous confidence and support. He particularly noted that the sponsors with their increasing support recognize the history and role of Chamber and know that they award a very credible non-profit Organization that represents then the best possible way and not any for-profit Organization or events company.
Mr. Anastasopoulos expressed his hearty gratitude and congratulations to the personnel of the Chamber for their intensive efforts in fulfilling successfully the continuously increasing responsibilities of the Chamber.
Finally, the President assured that the Chamber will make every effort to be useful to its members and contribute positively and effectively to the business development of our country.
The General Assembly closed on a festive atmosphere, confirming the continuation of the important work of the Chamber to enhance entrepreneurship and support the efforts of the Greek economy.
